Be Objective focused - Be successful

It’s easy to get distracted and lose focus when you're making appointment setting and telesales calls.

A lot of sellers see appointment setting as something you have to do before you can get to the real part of the job, delivering your sales pitch.

Telesales callers often start the day full of energy but then get into an almost hypnotic routine and lose that early sparkle.

What then happens is they get distracted and find reasons not to make the cold calls. It becomes easy to find reasons to do something else.

Go for a coffee, talk to a colleague, or shuffle some papers. Then before you know it the day has gone and you have made few sales or no appointments.

To be successful you need to apply some real focus and motivation techniques to your appointment setting and telesales calling sessions.


Let's start with a question...

Ask yourself the question: Why do I come to work?

What is it that gets you out of bed every morning and motivates you to give your day to working.

You'll find it is either a positive motivator related to something you want. Or, a negative motivator that you want to move away from.

Is it something you're saving to buy, such as a holiday, a new house, or do you aim for financial independence.

Maybe it’s security, so you can pay the bills, move away from debt, keep the roof over your head and have food on the table.

One of the best free telesales tips I received when I was a young salesman, was to get a physical reminder of my objective, my reason for coming to work.

A photograph of that new house, a holiday brochure, a physical represenation of the debts owed so you can knock it down one payment at a time.

Or how about a picture of what financial freedom would give you.

Get a physical representation, an anchor, that you can see and feel, and have it with you when you make your calls.

When a distraction happens, when your motivation dips, when the coffee machine calls out, look at and touch your objective, and focus on why you're making those cold calls.


...Remember, without motivation and a reason to be successful your telesales and appointment cold calls will lose their energy and their effectiveness. So choose a reason why you want to be successful and select a real object to represent it.
